ASSIGNMENT

“I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born.” Jeremiah 1:5

The Psalmist wrote: “…all my days were written in Your book and planned before a single one of them began.” (Psalm 139:16) Can you even imagine that? God, the Creator of the Universe, knew you, and me, even before we were born—before we were even a thought—before we were conceived! God, the One who created—the One who spoke and it was so—knows you, knows me, not only that, He has a plan for us. To follow that plan, all we have to do is believe, have faith, and trust God and His word. Sounds simple, doesn’t it?

The problem is the world. Worldly ideas, thoughts, and promises of riches interfere with our lives. God had a plan for Adam and Eve, but worldly desires interfered. Satan planted a thought in Eve’s head that told her it was alright to eat the apple God told her not to eat. Just a simple thing, right? But, God’s word is true and solid. It is there to be obeyed. And when Eve disobeyed—and Adam, also—there were consequences. The battle was on and we are in that battle to this day. It is called Spiritual Warfare.

To be sure, God loves you and will forgive you all your sins. He died on the cross, for all our sins—past, present, and future—and He rose from the tomb, therefore, He is alive and walking beside us. Not only that, but He sent His Holy Spirit to help you and live in you. When you accept Jesus as your Savior, His Holy Spirit lives within you. You have a helper who will help you resist the evil thoughts and desires that “ole-slow-foot” tries to make you believe are good for you.

As Jonah discovered, as he fought his battle with Satan, “I called for help, and you listened to my cry,” (Jonah 2:2) you too will discover. If you are struggling with something, call out to God, ask His Holy Spirit to show you the way. You have an assignment—discover it. As O.S. Hawkins writes: “Somewhere there is something for you to do that no one else can do quite like you can. You have a God-given assignment. Find it.”

Lord, what would you have me do? Where do you want me to do it? In Jesus’ name. Amen
